Site visited May 2002
To find site take B4022 from Charlbury towards
Enstone. The site is about three quarters of a mile from Charlbury.
This is quite a large site with 125 generously
sized pitches, which are arranged in groups around the access roads divided by
stands of mature trees. Trailer tents and larger stand-alone tents are sometimes
accommodated alongside caravans but there is also quite a large tent area
divided up by ranch fencing. There is ample provision of water taps and rubbish
disposal. The two heated toilet blocks, built in Cotswold Stone, are of an
excellent standard and they contain a bathroom and family room. WC chemical
disposal is available at each toilet block. The site reception also doubles as
the site shop selling bread, milk, wine and other essentials and newspapers can
be ordered. Children are well catered for with two play areas plus a couple of
barn style building with pool tables and skittles and for the adults there is a
tennis court. There are lots of farm and domestic animals contained within
walkways around the site which provides an extra point of interest. These
walkways provide an opportunity to get some exercise on site. You can even walk
into the village of Charlbury, about one country mile away, with only a short
section on the road.
We visited this site over a Bank Holiday weekend
so we found it quite noisy simply because of the volume of people. By mid
afternoon on the Monday the site had gone from full to about 90% empty. I think
that advanced booking would be essential for Bank Holidays but it might not be
necessary at other times, even at weekends providing there are no particular
events in the area but best check with the site. The site don't seem to want a
booking deposit but ask you to let them know if you can't make it. The normal
leaving time is 12 noon but flexibility is shown if the site is not full.
Definitely a site we shall return to.
