58 Pitches. Non-members admitted. Open all year.
To find this site: Leave the M5 at junction 18 and
take the A4 toward Bristol. Once under the Clifton Suspension Bridge follow
signs for the SS Great Britain, watch out for site on left in Cumberland Road.
This site is fairly small with only 58 pitches,
most of which are on hard-standings with only a few on grass. There is one
toilet block with all facilities up to the usual Caravan Club standards, even
the washing up area is under cover. The site has TV hook-ups. These are now free
but you must provide your own cable. It is important to follow the warden's
instructions on pitching to the pitch pegs because of the limitation
on space and so as not to inconvenience your neighbours. Being near to the city
centre does mean there will be some traffic noise but this is not a real
problem, except perhaps around rush hour time. There is a Newsagents/Off License
about 200 meters from the site entrance, which also sells milk etc.
Baltic Wharf site is situated adjacent to the
Floating Harbour in Bristol. The SS Great Britain is only a short stroll away
from the site. There are three pubs in the vicinity of the site on the harbours
edge, most seem to do food. The centre of Bristol is an easy, and interesting,
walk, alternatively you can catch a bus from next to the Newsagents or there is
a ferry service which runs from just outside the site. From the site you can
walk to the Suspension Bridge but be aware that it is quite a climb from river
level although very rewarding once you have got your breath back! From the
Bridge it is a short walk into Clifton which has some interesting shops.
The centre of Bristol has most shopping needs although I felt the Broadmead area seemed a little run down. The Cribbs Causeway Shopping Centre is just off the M5 and is worth a visit as is the Ikea store which is just off the M32 if you have not been to one of these stores. (note for motorhomes visiting Ikea, as you approach the store go through the gates just to the right which will avoid the height restrictions of the under-store car park).
